John Carroll University’s Master of Arts in Humanities’ Irish Studies track will expand to include a new focus in Western Ireland. Jeanne Colleran, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and professor of English, announced the expansion during an economic development trip to Ireland in September. During the spring 2013 semester, Colleran will teach a new course, “The Wild Irish West: The Literature of Western Ireland.” This course is specially designed to highlight the literature and history of Counties Mayo, Galway, and Sligo—the birthplaces of many of Cleveland’s Irish Americans. The Master of Arts in Humanities program, including its Irish Studies track, is open to both degree-seeking and non-degree seeking students. For more information, visit the Office of Graduate Studies website or contact Brenda Wirkus, Ph.D., director of the humanities program.
