This past semester proved to be one of the most meaningful experiences of Hayam Alammari's time at John Carroll University. Serving in dual roles as a First-Gen Blue Streak Ambassador and the Tri-Alpha & Recognition Coordinator allowed Alammari to significantly develop her leadership skills, foster community, and actively support students who share similar first-generation journeys.

In her role, she helped plan and support several impactful First-Gen events, including the Vision Board activity, Goat Therapy, and the Etiquette Dinner. Each event reinforced for her the critical importance of establishing spaces where first-generation students feel welcomed, fully supported, and celebrated. Witnessing students connect, laugh, and feel empowered demonstrated the tangible impact of this vital work.

As a first-generation student herself, these roles deepened Alammari's connection to her community. It provided her with a platform to leverage her own experiences to uplift others, reminding her that effective leadership is rooted in empathy, presence, and encouragement. As Tri-Alpha & Recognition Coordinator, Alammari also had the privilege of formally recognizing the academic and personal achievements of first-gen students, which notably strengthened her appreciation for the community’s resilience and pride.

Are you a first-generation college student who has a 3.2 GPA and is interested in learning more and being part of the Tri-Alpha Honor Society?
