Program Overview & Outcomes

Gain a broad understanding of digital marketing and communication strategy in business, politics, and culture, while developing high-demand, industry-specific skills. In this program, you will:

  • Discover the role of digital channels in an organization’s larger revenue strategy
  • Learn methodologies for data collection and analysis that inform both daily campaign best practices and longer-term digital strategies
  • Grasp concepts of customer acquisition, experience, engagement, and retention strategies
  • Build technical, artistic, analytical, and production skills required to create engaging content
  • Develop management and relational skills required for work with and across diverse audiences and teams

Stackable Graduate Certificates

Deepen your skill set with a 9-credit-hour Digital Marketing Certificate. The three graduate certificates build toward the Master of Science degree with an immersive capstone experience.

Learn the skills for effective content creation and marketing in digital platforms such as branding strategies, multi-channel storytelling techniques, and writing effective marketing copy based on search engine optimization and AI techniques. Classes in this certificate are taught by Tim Russert Department of Communication faculty.

Courses include:

  • COM 5080 - Branding and Content Strategy
  • COM 5120 - Brand Storytelling Through Content Production
  • COM 5160 - Writing and Search Engine Optimization

Examine various strategies to effectively engage consumers and the public using social media and digital advertising. Classes in this certificate are taught by Tim Russert Department of Communication faculty.

Courses include:
  • COM 5180 - Digital Advertising & Marketing
  • COM 5220 - Online Reputation Management
  • COM 5240 - Social Media Marketing

Acquire practical knowledge and skills in collecting, analyzing, and visualizing marketing data using both traditional and digital marketing analytical techniques to transform marketing insights into strategies. Classes in this certificate are taught by Boler College of Business faculty.

Courses include:
  • BI 5521 - Introduction to Applied Data Analytics or EC 5522 - Introduction to Applied Business Analytics
  • MK 5583 - Digital Marketing
  • MK 5584 - Market Research and Analysis

The capstone project is a requirement for graduate students enrolled in the full master's program only. 

In this culminating project, students design and implement a client-based project to demonstrate their learning, commitment to ethical practices, as well as their ability to integrate marketing, advertising, and public relations functions effectively.

To apply to the Master of Science in Digital Marketing and Communication Strategy at JCU, you need an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution.

The following documents are required for a complete application:

  • Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
  • Resume/CV
  • Two letter(s) of recommendation 
  • Statement of purpose - one to two pages giving us your background and explaining how this degree will help you achieve your goals 

Applicants are admitted on a rolling basis.

However, for best consideration, applications for specific terms should be received by the following dates:

  • August 1: For a Fall semester start
  • December 1: For a Spring semester start
  • April 1: For a summer semester start
