Background

Dr. Alison M. Dachner is a full-time Associate Professor of Management in the Department of Management, Marketing, and Supply Chain in the Boler College of Business at John Carroll University. She received her B.S. in Management and Human Resources from The Ohio State University and her M.B.A. with a concentration in Labor Relations and Human Resources from Cleveland State University. Dr. Dachner was also awarded her Ph.D. in Labor and Human Resources from The Ohio State University. Dr. Dachner is a member of the Academy of Management, OBTS Teaching Society for Management Educators, the Society for Industrial-Organizational Psychology, and Society for Human Resource Management. She also serves on the academic advisory board for the HR Leadership Group of Northeast Ohio.

Courses

Dr. Dachner taught as an instructor for the Department of Management and Human Resources in the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University. She currently teaches in the Boler College of Business at John Carroll University. Courses she has taught include: Human Resource Management, Management and Organizational Behavior, Training and Management Development, International Human Resource Management, Strategic Management, and Advanced Human Resource Management.

Research

Dr. Dachner’s primary research interests include (a) understanding and improving modern HR practices, especially those relevant to training, development, and informal learning (b) the role of the instructor and curriculum design in improving undergraduate management education, and (c) social capital and the valuable organizational outcomes associated with interpersonal relationships in the workplace. Her research has been published in Journal of Applied Psychology, Human Resource Development Quarterly, Journal of Management Education, SAM Advanced Management Journal and The Academy of Management Annals. She has presented her work at Academy of Management (AOM) Annual Conference, Midwest AoM Annual Conference, Organizational Behavior Teaching Conference, American Psychological Association’s Convention, and Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology Conference.
