Welcome to Summer in The Heights. Here’s how we’ll keep your student safe, engaged, and supported.
Students are supervised around the clock by trained staff. Residential students live in Murphy Hall with Summer in The Heights Student Counselors who stay in the building overnight. During the day, JCU faculty lead all workshops and activities. JCUPD (JCU Police Department) maintains a 24/7 presence on campus.
Our goal is to create a positive environment where students can focus on learning, make friends, and experience independence in a supported setting.
Students spend their days in workshops, seminars, and hands-on activities led by JCU faculty. The pace is engaging but not exhausting—there's built-in time for breaks, meals, and socializing. Evenings include group activities and free time in the residence hall. By Friday, your student will be tired, inspired, and full of stories.
Program-specific schedules are posted on each program's page as they're confirmed.
You'll receive updates from us at key points: after acceptance, before arrival, and during the program week. Pre-arrival emails include emergency contact information, check-in details, and everything you need to prepare.
Reaching your student: Students keep their phones and can contact you during free time. We encourage giving them space to be fully present during the program—they'll have plenty to share at closing.
Reaching us: Emergency contact information is provided in your pre-arrival materials. For campus emergencies, JCUPD is available 24/7.
Your student's required forms include emergency contacts, health information, and any accommodation or dietary needs. We use this information to prepare for their arrival and ensure we can support them throughout the week.
Blue Streak Dining accommodates most dietary restrictions—just let us know in advance. For accessibility support, see Accessibility & Dietary Accommodations.
We expect students to participate fully, follow staff instructions, and treat others with respect. Students may not leave campus without permission and must attend all scheduled activities unless excused.
For complete details, see Policies & Participation.
JCU is located in University Heights, about 30 minutes from Cleveland Hopkins Airport. For directions, parking, and a list of nearby hotels with JCU rates, visit Maps & Directions.
On Friday, July 17, families are invited to campus to celebrate student achievements. We'll email the time, location, and parking details the week of the event.
