Background
Born and raised in the Cleveland area. Prior to the First World War, my family immigrated from the Peloponnesian and Thessalian regions of Greece. As most Greek immigrants they were the proprietors of small service-oriented businesses. I grew up on the east side and attended Beachwood High School. I received my Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from John Carroll. My Ph.D. is in Nineteenth Century American History, with an emphasis on the Slavery Controversy, the Civil War and the Reconstruction from Kent State. I began my college teaching career at Lorain County Community College (LCCC) in Elyria, Ohio in 1989. In addition to my classroom duties at LCCC, I served as the Acting Dean of Social Sciences and Human Services for nearly two years. I joined John Carroll's History Department in 1997. During my over thirty years as a history professor, I have written articles, served on various boards and have been awarded four distinguished teaching awards. In the summer of 1999 I was awarded a fellowship to study and teach military history at the US Military Academy at West Point, New York. The time I spent at West Point "certified" me to present US military history courses to ROTC cadets. Most recently, I was appointed to the Ohio History Connection's "Echoes Magazine" Advisory Board. Currently, I am the faculty advisor of the JCU History Club and Pershing Rifles Company. During the Vietnam-era I served as a troop commander and staff officer in the US Army. My wife, Sally and I live in Beachwood.
