Jisok Kang

Background
Dr. Jisok Kang is an Associate Professor of Finance (tenured) at the Boler College of Business, John Carroll University. With a career spanning academia and high-level financial regulation, he specializes in Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance, Investments, and International Finance.
Dr. Kang earned his Ph.D. in Finance (2016) and his M.B.A. (2010) from the Schulich School of Business at York University. His professional credentials include being a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Before his tenure at John Carroll University, which began in 2018, he served as a Research Associate at the Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. He also possesses significant industry experience, having worked as a Senior Examiner for the Financial Supervisory Service, the financial regulatory authority of Korea, from 2000 to 2008.
His research has been featured in prestigious publications such as the Journal of Financial Economics, the Review of Corporate Finance, and the Journal of Financial Markets. Notably, his work on stock market concentration received the Best Paper Award from the Korea-America Finance Association in 2020.
In the classroom, Dr. Kang is a decorated educator, having won the Wasmer Teaching Award (2022, 2026) and the Dean’s Award for Inspired Service (2019). He has taught a variety of courses, including Business Finance, Investments, and Portfolio Management, and has led student teams to regional victories in the CFA Research Challenge.
