Matt Clark

Director of Rec & Intramurals

Background

Matt Clark has served as the Director of Recreation since November 2018. In his role, he oversees all recreation facilities, programs, services, and staff. This includes the day-to-day operations of the Athletic, Wellness, & Event Center; Corbo Fitness Center; Fitness Studio; and Johnson Natatorium. He also oversees intramural and club sports; group fitness; and 100+ student employees. In May 2024, Matt was honored with JCU Staff Council's 2023-2024 Staff Member of the Year Award.

Prior to arriving at JCU, Matt worked in a variety of recreation and athletics settings. From 2015-2018, he was the Coordinator of Competitive Sports at the University of Dayton overseeing the intramural sports and club sports programs. From 2013-2014, he oversaw the club sports program at Purdue University and coached the club baseball team. He has also worked in athletics facility operations and event management roles at both the University of Dayton and The Ohio State University.

Originally from Hilliard, Ohio, Matt is a two-time graduate of the University of Dayton (2011 and 2013) and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Education. During his time at Dayton, Matt played four years of club baseball, worked as an intramural sports official, and served as the Graduate Assistant of Intramural Sports. He is currently a member of NIRSA and the Ohio Recreational Sports Association (ORSA).

Matt lives in Cleveland with his wife, Courtney, and two children, Lucy and Charlie. He enjoys golfing, playing softball, and umpiring OHSAA high school baseball.
