Eight student caddies who have been awarded the Evans Scholarship will attend John Carroll University this fall.

The Evans Scholarship is a full housing and tuition college scholarship offered to golf caddies and valued at more than $125,000 over four years. To qualify for the Evans Scholarship, students must meet the Program’s four selection criteria, demonstrating a strong caddie record, outstanding academics, financial need, and exceptional character.

John Carroll University became an Evans Scholars partner university in 2025, expanding the Evans Scholars Foundation’s national network of college partners. Andrea Quintero Delgado, the first Evans Scholar to attend JCU, is currently a freshman on campus. This fall’s incoming group will become the second class of Evans Scholars at John Carroll, marking another important step in the program’s growth.

“John Carroll University is proud to welcome these outstanding Evans Scholars to campus this fall,” said Alan R. Miciak, President of John Carroll University. “Our partnership with the Evans Scholars Foundation continues to create meaningful opportunities for deserving students, and we are excited to welcome this class to John Carroll. Their hard work, academic achievement, and character have already set them apart, and we look forward to the many ways they will contribute to our campus community.”

The Western Golf Association (WGA), headquartered in Glenview, Illinois, has supported the Chick Evans Scholarship Program through the Evans Scholars Foundation (ESF) since 1930. Known as one of golf’s favorite charities, it is the nation’s largest scholarship program for caddies.

“We are proud to see this partnership with John Carroll University continue to grow with the addition of these outstanding young men and women,” said Andrew Langan, WGA Chairman. “Each of these students has earned the Evans Scholarship through dedication on the golf course, in the classroom, and in their communities, and we are excited to support them as they begin this next chapter.”

Currently, a record 1,260 caddies are enrolled at 27 universities across the country as Evans Scholars. More than 12,575 caddies have graduated as Evans Scholars since the Program was founded by famed Chicago amateur golfer Charles “Chick” Evans Jr. in 1930.

This group is part of a record-breaking class of 380 caddies from across the country who earned the Evans Scholarship this year, the largest number of new Scholars awarded in a single year in program history.

“Being named an Evans Scholar means so much to me because it reflects all the hard work that went into getting to this point,” said Me'Kiayla Phillips, who will attend John Carroll University this fall. “Caddying has taught me responsibility, confidence and how to build relationships, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue my education as part of this incredible community.”

Evans Scholars have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 and a 98 percent graduation rate. An estimated 40 percent are first-generation college students, and 96 percent are employed or enrolled in graduate school within six months of graduating.

Funds for the Evans Scholarship come mostly from contributions by more than 43,500 supporters across the country, who are members of the Evans Scholars Par Club program. Evans Scholars Alumni donate more than $15 million annually, and all proceeds from the BMW Championship, the penultimate PGA TOUR Playoff event in the PGA TOUR’s FedExCup competition, benefit the Evans Scholars Foundation. In 2026, the BMW Championship will be held at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri, from August 18-23.
