Dr. Shazia Naurin, Ph.D., LPCC-S, NCC, CCMHC, ACS is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling at John Carroll University.

Dr. Naurin is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Supervisor in the state of Ohio, a Nationally Certified Counselor, a Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and an Approved Clinical Supervisor nationally, with specialized training in EMDR, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy. Her clinical experience spans work with children, adolescents, and adults in diverse settings, including behavioral health urgent care, long-term care facilities, schools, and international mental health contexts.
Dr. Naurin brings over two decades of teaching, clinical, and international experience, with advanced training in EMDR, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy .
Research Interests
Dr. Naurin’s research focuses on empathy development, empathy fatigue, and cultural empathy in counselor education. She has presented nationally on empathy in counselor education, multicultural and diversity issues in clinical supervision, highlighting best practices for training and supporting counselors across diverse cultural contexts. Dr. Naurin is passionate about integrating neuroscience to strengthen group counseling practice and enhance counselor effectiveness.
She is actively involved in professional leadership through the Ohio Counseling Association, the American Counseling Association, the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, American Mental Health Counselors Association, Chai Sigma Iota, and related organizations.
