Tom Pace
Associate Professor
Background
Tom Pace is Associate Professor of English at John Carroll University, where he directs the First-Year Writing Program, the Professional Writing major, and Written Expression in the Integrated Core Curriculum (2014–present). His work includes curriculum development, assessment design, faculty development, and oversight of writing in the Core. He teaches widely across writing studies—first-year writing, developmental writing, professional and business writing, rhetoric, and special topics in popular culture and the Beatles. His scholarship and administrative leadership are grounded in rhetorical theory, style, Jesuit pedagogies, and student-centered writing instruction.
Areas of Expertise
His areas of expertise include writing studies, style, audience, and rhetorical theory. He also works in Jesuit rhetorical traditions and pedagogies, professional and business writing, workplace genres, and popular culture studies—especially Generation X and the Beatles—as well as writing program administration, curriculum, and assessment.
Research Interests
Dr. Pace’s research focuses on the history and pedagogy of writing instruction, Generation X, and the Beatles. Recent publications address style, professional writing, and Beatles scholarship, and he is currently completing a book on Beatle fandom across generations, due in 2026. He has presented his work at national and international venues, including the Popular Culture Association, the Conference on College Composition and Communication, the Rhetoric Society of America, and the International Society for the History of Rhetoric.
