Use this page to request accommodations. You can request academic and non-academic accommodations in the same application. Documentation can be uploaded per request type.
About AIM (Accessible Information Management)
AIM is the web-based tool John Carroll students use to request accommodations, send accommodation letters to faculty, acknowledge policies, and more.
Log into AIM: Open the AIM student portal using your JCU campus credentials.

Steps to request accommodations
- Apply in AIM: Start your application in AIM.
- Upload documentation: Provide current documentation from a qualified professional. See Documentation guidelines.
- Schedule intake: Watch your JCU email for an invitation from SAS to book your intake meeting.
- Approval & next steps: You’ll receive an email outlining approved accommodations and how to use them.
Tip: Submit early. Some accommodations require coordination and advance preparation.
Choose your path
- Academic accommodations — course-related supports (testing, note-taking, formats, assistive technology).
- Non-academic accommodations — housing, meal plan, parking, emotional support animal (ESA).
Academic accommodations
Examples include extended exam time, distraction-reduced testing, note-taking support, alternative formats, and approved assistive technology.
Non-academic accommodations
You can submit multiple non-academic requests within the same AIM application. Documentation is typically uploaded for each request.
What to expect at your intake meeting
- 30–45 minutes with SAS to understand your courses, environment, and goals.
- Review documentation (if available) and discuss functional impacts.
- Identify reasonable accommodations and next steps.
- Timeline for letters and, if needed, coordination with other offices.
What to expect next
- Intake scheduling is based on when your application and documentation are received.
- Non-academic requests may require coordination with Residence Life, Dining, or Parking.
- See Deadlines & Availability for priority windows and coordination notes.
Typical lead times & coordination
- Alternative formats/captioning: start as early as possible; turnaround depends on materials.
- Housing/Meal/Parking/ESA: timelines follow partner offices; submit early for best availability.
Privacy & consent (quick note)
Faculty receive only your accommodation letter you send through AIM—not your diagnosis or documentation. See full details on Privacy & consent.
Important reminders
- You must request accommodations each semester in AIM for timely implementation.
- Professors are not obligated to provide classroom accommodations until they receive your official accommodation letter via AIM.
- Faculty do not receive notice of your SAS registration unless you choose to send your letter.
