Traditions & Milestones

Some of the most meaningful moments in a nursing education happen outside the classroom. These traditions mark students’ growth as clinicians and as people.

Blessing of the Hands

A Jesuit ceremony marking students’ entry into the nursing program and clinical practice. Rooted in Ignatian spirituality, the Blessing of the Hands acknowledges the care, skill, and compassion that nursing students bring to the work of healing.

Pinning Ceremony

A nursing-specific tradition held during commencement weekend. Graduating students receive their nursing pins — often placed by a family member or mentor — in recognition of their achievement and commitment to the profession. Distinct from the university’s general commencement
