John Carroll University is proud to honor Iota Chi Upsilon (IXY) as the inaugural recipient of the newly established Alumni Medal for Collective Achievement, recognizing the fraternity’s longstanding commitment to the University and its Jesuit mission.
To mark this honor, IXY alumni will launch a $5 million fundraising initiative to support future generations of John Carroll students. The effort has already secured $3 million in lead gifts toward its goal.
Half of the funds raised through this initiative will support The Iota Chi Upsilon (IXY) Alumni Endowed Scholarship, which provides financial support to approximately 30 students each year. The remaining half of the funds will support the naming of a welcome center in Rodman Hall, which will be the first stop for prospective students and families at the start of each campus visit.
The John Carroll University Alumni Association established the Alumni Medal for Collective Achievement to recognize organized groups of John Carroll alumni whose collective service, philanthropy, and engagement have made a lasting impact on the University.
To commemorate this historic milestone, the University will host a special weekend celebration from Thursday, September 24, through Friday, September 25, 2026, where the John Carroll Alumni Association will formally bestow this high honor on the members of Iota Chi Upsilon.
“There are few groups with deeper ties and a stronger presence in the John Carroll Alumni Association than the men who make up Iota Chi Upsilon,” said Mike Scanlan ’06, Vice President for University Advancement. “We are grateful to the IXY brothers for their significant service to our alma mater and their commitment to the future of John Carroll University.”
The naming of a welcome center reflects a meaningful part of the IXY alumni history at John Carroll. IXY alumni are best known for their roles as student tour guides during their undergraduate days on campus. Their legacy as tour guides continues to inspire the robust Blue Streak Ambassador and Tour Guide program to this day.
This initiative, while extraordinary, is part of a long history of IXY support for John Carroll University. In addition to establishing The Iota Chi Upsilon Alumni Endowed Scholarship, IXY alumni have supported facilities and resources across campus, including the Short Family Tennis Center, the Korb Family Wrestling Room, the Mastrantoni Family Student Success Commons, and the Anatomage Table for the School of Nursing, to name a few.
For any IXY brother or John Carroll community member interested in supporting this endeavor, please contact Andre Calabretta ’08G, Assistant Vice President for Development, at acalabretta@jcu.edu or 216-397-4989.
