The Kenneth & Joan Callahan Endowed Scholarship is a $5,500 scholarship awarded to a current sophomore to be applied to the student's junior year. If the student continues to meet the scholarship criteria, the scholarship award will be renewed for the student's senior year.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:

Have a declared intent to pursue a career in medicine or dentistry by being a registered participant of the Pre-Health Professions Program;

Be able to demonstrate community involvement and/or social responsibility;

Have an overall GPA of at least 3.5;

Be a current sophomore.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- A resume that describes his or her academic achievements, community involvement, and other activities that convey both the scholarship and social responsibility of the applicant;
- Names and contact information of two people who can serve as references;
- A copy of the applicant’s web transcript (unofficial transcript from Banner);
- A personal essay that demonstrates a desire to pursue a career in medicine or dentistry, how the applicant’s community service impacted that career goal, and the steps taken to fulfill that goal. Financial need issues can also be included in the essay. Maximum length of essay is 5,000 characters, including spaces.

The James J. & Marie Kolenich Pre-Med Scholarship is a $3,800 scholarship awarded to a current junior who intends to pursue a career in medicine. The award will be applied to the student's senior year.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:

Have a declared intent to pursue a career in medicine by being a registered participant of the Pre-Health Professions Program;

Have an overall GPA of at least 3.25;

Have taken over 50% of undergraduate coursework at John Carroll University at the time the award is given;

Demonstrate an interest in the humanities;

Be a current junior.

The Terence H. Ahearn, S.J. award goes to the outstanding Pre-Health Professions student and is named after the former director of the Biology Department at John Carroll University. Father Ahearn is considered to have established the basis for pre-medical and pre-health professions education here at JCU.
