About the Program

Hands-on learning is a cornerstone of our Public Health curriculum. Students engage in service-learning projects, community-based research and internships and medical immersion trips that foster strong community ties and real-world experience. 

 

 

Experiential Learning Opportunities

Service-Learning Classes: Courses like BL 2600 Social Inequality and Disease incorporate practical components.

 

Community-Based Research: Collaborate with the Center for Service and Social Action (CSSA) and "JCU in the City" to address Cleveland's health concerns.

 

Internships: Required for both the major and minor, these internships facilitate community engagement and professional growth.

 

Medical Immersion Trips: Provide healthcare in countries such as Honduras, gaining clinical experience and cultural awareness.

Diverse and Comprehensive Coursework

The Public Health major consists of 35 foundational credits and 19 elective credits, covering:

 

  • Social and Behavioral Health
  • History of Health and Health Policy
  • Health of Diverse Populations
  • Environmental Health/Environmental Studies
  • Public Health Internship (4 credits)

Electives must include at least 9 credits at/or above the 3000 level.
