Brendan Dolan: Brendan joined the John Carroll University community in the fall of 2014. He spent the previous six years working within various Residence Life positions at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in Winona, MN. He earned his undergraduate degree at John Carroll University in 2008 and his master’s degree at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. Brendan has served as Vice Chair for Membership, Governance, and Finance for two years. Brendan is a strong proponent of Catholic Higher Education and mission formation. Brendan oversees all housing operations within the Office of Residence Life including facilities, access to the halls, collaborating with the residential Fraternities and Sororities, summer camps and conferencing, and overseeing the residential duplexes and houses.
Angela Krueger: I’m Angela Krueger, Associate Registrar here at John Carroll. I’ve been here for just over two years and I love the way the John Carroll community continues to work to make the voice of the staff heard in campus decisions. In addition to working with transfer students, I work with educational policy on campus, and am a Title IX Investigator. I am honored to be nominated for the position of Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Before I came to John Carroll, I worked in assessment and accreditation, which taught me how to approach the work of higher education from a student-centered perspective. I incorporate this perspective in how I approach everything that I do, namely to think about the human story that we each bring to our relationships and experiences and how that influences our interactions and our needs. I hope you will consider me to be your representative.
Amy Zucca: I have been serving as a member at-large on the Membership Governance, and Finance Committee. Brendan Dolan, our outgoing Vice Chair for Membership, Governance, and Finance, has done a great job. From working with him I feel I understand the duties of this position and am happy to serve.
Jurell Sison: Hi all! My name is Jurell Sison and I serve as the Assistant Director of Campus Ministry. I graduated from John Carroll in 2010, did a year of service with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, came back to JCU as a Resident Minister and came back about 6 years later! Needless to say, JCU is home to me. I’m passionate promoting a faith that does justice and making sure the students here feel safe and cared for. I hope my gifts and talents can serve staff council well.
Ed Mish: I’ve been working at John Carroll — as the administrative assistant in the Department of Theology & Religious Studies — since August 2017. I look forward to the opportunity to serve on Staff Council, representing my colleagues, advancing our interests, and strengthening our community. I am honored by your support. Thank you very much for expressing confidence in me!
Lou Genovese: I am interested in participating on staff council to inspire, promote, and facilitate employee relationships. As part of my twenty plus working career I have gained broad experiences that will help Staff Council continue the great success with building a sense of community on campus.
Trent Maverick: I’m proud to be running for Staff Council re-election in my third year at John Carroll. As the Director of WJCU, I manage, advise, and recruit for John Carroll’s college radio station. I’m comfortable organizing events, corralling volunteers, balancing a budget, decorating doors, and advocating for WJCU’s little corner of the community. I also teach in the Tim Russert Department of Communication… so I have one foot in faculty business as well! I hope to continue to serve on Staff Council and bring more events, communication, camaraderie and visibility to John Carroll staff.
Mary Ellen Riley: Being a recent alum and now an active John Carroll employee, my pride in John Carroll has only grown since stepping back on campus. While my JCU roots run deep, I’m honored to have been given this opportunity to continue to grow, engage, and contribute to the success of the people that make a University such as John Carroll so great. Staff Council has helped me find my place as a new employee over the past year or so, and it is this sense of belonging and pride that I hope to foster if given the opportunity to serve in this role. I’m eager to jump in feet first!
Lauren Ryan: I am finishing up my second year at JCU as a Career Advisor in the Center for Career Services and I am eager to engage with our staff and be a resource in this capacity. I have dedicated my undergraduate and graduate studies, and research to identify strategies of improvement for marginalized groups, and have awaited my opportunity to apply what I have learned in the way that I have imagined. I am prepared to serve as the Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and work toward meeting diversity goals to ensure that members of our community have the opportunity to thrive.
Maria Soriano-Young: Hello! I have been the Writing Center Director at JCU since the fall of 2010, and my work in the English department and with many departments and offices across campus has helped me learn so much about the important work that my staff colleagues do on a daily basis. I joined the Recognition Committee this year as an ad hoc member, and have enjoyed the chance to participate in initiatives that show appreciation for others and honor their work and accomplishments. I hope to become an At-Large member of the Recognition Committee so that I can continue spreading gratitude and good wishes. As an experienced writer, my skills will be useful for composing messages and highlighting the wonderful staff members that are at the heart of our university.
Michelle Spangler: My name is Michelle Spangler. I am a current staff member, working as a budget analyst for the University. Staff council has been integral in my development and networking with faculty and staff, bridging the gap from alumna ’12 to employee. To be nominated as a Staff Council At-Large Member is a genuine honor, and I look forward to listening and engaging further with this community that I call home.
Pam Zangara: I have been a part of the JCU community since the summer of 2017 when I was hired as the Marketing Assistant in IMC. I have since transferred departments and currently serve as the Administrative Assistant in the Center for Service and Social Action. Being part of these two very different departments has allowed me to meet and interact with various JCU faculty and staff, which I greatly appreciate. Prior to arriving at JCU, I held positions in non-profit, event planning, finance and owned a catering business. Although I did not attend JCU as a student, I have family members who did and my daughter will be a freshman this fall, joining the incoming class of Blue Streaks 2013. I am very honored to be part of JCU!
Selen Zarrelli: My name is Selen Zarrelli (she/her/hers), I am an Administrative Assistant at Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion and a part-time MBA student at Boler College of Business. I have recently celebrated my first year at JCU. I couldn’t be more pleased about the connections I have made in our community. I would love to be a part of the staff council starting as an at-large member position by serving the community and learning more about the institution thoroughly.
