Dear Members of the John Carroll University Community,

During the last academic year, we formed a committee of students, faculty, and staff to evaluate our dining and catering services at JCU. We know the on-campus dining experience is an integral part of student and community life at John Carroll University and we recognize the importance of providing you with fresh and efficient options that meet your dietary needs.

After careful consideration by our committee, I’m pleased to announce that we contracted with Parkhurst Dining, a family-owned company with an award-winning approach to food service. Parkhurst is passionate about creating fresh, authentic food and flavors that are handcrafted by their chefs for guests. They have been a pioneer in the farm to table movement since 2002 with a proven track record of providing quality service and products. Some highlights of their approach include:

  • Locally sourced, healthy ingredients
  • Made-from-scratch selections with menus customized for each location
  • A thoughtful and award-winning approach to allergens and food safety training
  • Innovative Mobile ordering technology and portable, fresh meal solutions for convenience

Parkhurst will manage all on-campus dining opportunities including Schott Dining Hall, the Inn Between, and the Cubby in the D.J. Lombardo Student Center; Einstein Bros. Bagels in the Administration Building; and the The Nook grab-and-go location in the Dolan Science Center. Parkhurst will also handle catering needs for the University.

The 2020-21 academic year presents new dining challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Together with Parkhurst, we are developing a comprehensive plan to ensure the health and safety of our students throughout the dining experience. We will continue to adapt as needed to deliver exceptional food experiences in the ever-changing environment, leveraging the expertise of Parkhurst’s food safety team and training. The new GET Food mobile app will provide anyone who lives, works, or learns on our campus with safe and efficient, limited-contact ordering from our retail locations.

More information will be released in the coming weeks outlining specific changes and regulations to the on-campus dining experience amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

I want to thank all those who submitted feedback or participated in the vetting process during this transition.

Sincerely,

Michael D. Johnson, Ph.D. President, John Carroll University
