A team from the College College of Business recently represented John Carroll University at the Deloitte Audit Innovation Campus Challenge (AICC). In total, 52 colleges and universities nationwide were asked to participate in the challenge. This was the first year John Carroll University participated.
Under the guidance of faculty advisor Dr. Tripp Petzel, the team of seniors Mikayla Hutchings and Becky Love, along with sophomores Rachel Duska, Kali Harrison, Lauren Kardohely and Brad Smith, traveled to the Deloitte AICC regional competition held in Chicago IL.
In October, the team received a reality-based challenge statement from Deloitte in which they were to identify risks and opportunities and to present a technology-based solution related to the potential need and demand to provide assurance services beyond audited financial statements.
Boler’s team quickly took ownership and ran with their project. They organized meetings to discuss progress with their Dr. Petzel and Deloitte audit partner Tracy Vigh, from Deloitte’s Cleveland office. The team also had weekly calls with a Deloitte Subject Matter Leader based out of the Deloitte Boca Raton office.
The regional competition was held in Chicago, the week of November 14-15. Our Boler team competed against Loyola University of Chicago, Marquette University, Miami University, Ohio, Michigan State University, University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign, University of Notre Dame and University of Wisconsin-Madison. After the first round of presentations, JCU advanced to the finals along with Illinois, Marquette and Michigan State.
Although they did not win, making it to the finals is a tremendous accomplishment for this team and university. The team exhibited outstanding professionalism and presentation skills. Congratulations!
