Programs of Study
The Pre-Health Professions program provides students with opportunities to fulfill the goal of becoming a healthcare professional, including advice on course selection and career paths in healthcare. Our courses will prepare you for careers in medicine, dentistry, podiatry, nursing, pharmacy, physicians assistant, and other healthcare professions. Our program includes a full-time director and assistant director who will advise you throughout your time at JCU.
Undergraduate Pre-Health Professions Program Minor
As a pre-health student, you can choose to major in sciences (biology, chemistry, physics) or nearly any area, as long as you demonstrate an aptitude for science and complete the prerequisite coursework set forth by your chosen professional program.
Undergraduate LECOM Early Acceptance Program
John Carroll University and the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine have partnered to enable talented students to gain acceptance to both JCU and LECOM.
M.S. in Anesthesia Partnership with CWRU
Each year, a limited number of qualified JCU students can gain preferred consideration for admission to Case Western Reserve University (CWRU)’s Master of Science in Anesthesia program.
MedStart Program at the University of Toledo College of Medicine
The MedStart program is offered by the University of Toledo College of Medicine. It allows qualified students to by-pass the MCAT and gain acceptance to the medical college in their junior year.
Ohio University Medical School Early Acceptance Program
John Carroll University and the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine have established a new partnership to help talented Ohio high school seniors reserve an assured seat in medical school.
Pre-Pharmacy Program
John Carroll University’s Pre-Pharmacy Program has a strong record of graduates successfully obtaining PharmD degrees from several different universities.
Program Learning Goals
The learning goals for the Pre-Health program are that students will:
- Acquire foundational knowledge of the human and natural worlds through the completion of appropriate integrative courses ensuring academic preparation for health professional programs.
- Understand the variety of healthcare careers and pathways to get there, including program prerequisites, standardized tests needed and application processes, and explain why the chosen career path is personally appropriate.
- Demonstrate understanding that health careers are service careers, requiring skills involving critical analysis, communication, leadership, collaboration, cultural competency and creative thinking.
