Spend a week on a real college campus—living in the dorms, eating in the dining hall, and experiencing life as a future lawyer.

The Pre-Law Experience summer program brings together motivated high school students for six days of hands-on legal training, courtroom simulations, and mentorship from legal professionals. You’ll build critical thinking and public speaking skills, learn how to argue a case with confidence, and gain insight into what it really means to pursue a career in law.

What to Expect

Explore the criminal justice system through hands-on learning, direct engagement with legal professionals, and an immersive mock trial experience that culminates in a live courtroom-style trial open to families.

Who Will Thrive

This program is for students in grades 10–12 who enjoy debate, critical thinking, and public speaking—and who want to grow in confidence, analytical skills, and understanding of law and justice. It's especially well suited for students curious about legal careers or how the criminal court system works in practice.

What You'll Study

Learn how criminal cases move from investigation and charging through trial and adjudication. Hear directly from judges, prosecutors, and defense attorneys who share real-world insights on legal reasoning, evidence, and courtroom procedure. Practice building persuasive arguments, questioning witnesses, and presenting a case as part of a supportive mock trial team.

How The Week Works

Each day combines interactive instruction, guest speakers from the legal profession, and guided mock trial preparation. You'll work closely with program faculty, undergraduate members of JCU's Mock Trial Team, and other pre-law undergraduates. You'll also hear from current law students about their experiences and pathways to law school. The week culminates in a full mock trial, with parents and guests invited to attend.
