The Student Government Sustainability Committee aims to create a culture of sustainable development that the entire John Carroll community is aware of, engaged in, and committed to. Integrating sustainable practices are vital in order to have an environment where humans and nature can coexist, while protecting ecological health, social equity, and economic vitality. The committee advances its mission through education, operations, and community partnerships for sustainable change.

The JCU Environmental Issues Group is composed of students who are interested in making the John Carroll community more sustainable in its practices. Some of EIG's goals include:

1. To increase awareness of how students, faculty, staff, and administrators can Go Green.

2. To improve the campus recycling program through more education, improved signage, and greater access to recycling bins throughout campus.

3. To maintain a bike fleet on campus for use by the campus community.

4. To continually identify ways to help make JCU a more sustainable community.

The Sustainability Committee regularly hosts "Swap Don't Shop" events on campus. These events allow students unwanted clothes & items for new ones, for free. It is a great way for students to reduce their environmental impact, save money, find new outfits, and get rid of unwanted clothing/items.
