Joanna Garcia, Interim Dean, Boler College of Business

Joanna Garcia Ph.D., CPA (NC) is the Interim Dean of the Boler College of Business at John Carroll University. Dr. Garcia came to John Carroll in 2017 from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. Before entering academia, she worked in the Private Client Advisors group for Deloitte Tax in Raleigh, North Carolina, specializing in individual and S-corporation taxation. She also served as an air support control officer in the U.S. Marine Corps before becoming an accountant.

Dr. Garcia earned her Ph.D. in Accounting from Virginia Tech, a Master of Accounting from North Carolina State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Black World Studies from Ohio Wesleyan University. She is a Cleveland native, having grown up in Shaker Heights, where she currently lives with her son and several cats.

Dr. Garcia teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in taxation, financial accounting, and managerial accounting. Her research interests are in diversity and inclusion in higher education as well as tax policy and the political process.
