Sociology & Criminology Minor

A minor in sociology helps enhance your understanding of social human behavior and develops critical thinking abilities that will prove valuable, no matter what your major is at John Carroll or your career goals.

Sociology Minor Course Requirements

The Sociology Minor consists of the 18 credit hours below. Students may take courses in the specialized concentrations within the Department of Sociology & Criminology or choose from a variety of Sociology courses.

  • SC 101 Foundations in Sociology (3 cr.)
  • SC 400 Sociological Theory (3 cr.)
  • An upper division Sociology& Criminology Course (3 cr.)

Three other Sociology & Criminology courses must be taken. Students may take courses in the specialized concentrations within the Department of Sociology & Criminology or choose from a variety of Sociology courses.

Internships

Our students have completed internships in over 80 nonprofit and governmental agencies throughout the Cleveland metropolitan area. Internships are available to seniors in their spring semester, and students are matched to an internship site based upon their career interests. It is not uncommon for our students to be offered employment by the agency where they interned.
