Sociology & Criminology Minor

A minor in sociology and criminology can help enhance your understanding of social human behavior and how social context affects individual behaviors and decisions. No matter what your major is at John Carroll or your career goals, understanding more about human behavior can help you succeed. 

SC Minor Course Requirements

The minor consists of 6 courses (18 credit hours). With only two required classes, the minor gives flexibility in class choice and allows students to focus on their areas of interest.

  • SC 1010 Foundations in Sociology (3 cr.)
  • SC 4000 Sociological Theory (3 cr.)
  • A 3000 or 4000-level Sociology & Criminology elective (3 cr.)
  • Three other Sociology & Criminology elective courses (9 total cr.)

Our students have completed internships in over 80 nonprofit and governmental agencies throughout the Cleveland metropolitan area. Internships are available to seniors in their spring semester, and students are matched to an internship site based upon their career interests. It is not uncommon for our students to be offered employment by the agency where they interned.
